Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou was an American poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist. Her books have been incredibly impactful to me in my life. One of the first books my Ms. Angelou that I read was I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and this is a book that I revisit frequently.

 The caged bird sings
with a fearful trill
of things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill
for the caged bird
sings of freedom.
